Time to clean friend list + Nursing #23 + Koi Sushi comment

Feb 06, 2010 19:42

Since my journals now are more geared towards writing about my nursing experience rather than about anime stuff, so I think it's about time to give my friend list a clean. =3 I'm gonna leave my real life and online (ex. fansub, drawing) friends in, and clear everyone else off (especially if you have made less than 5 comments), so if you are still interested in reading about me, please leave a comment here and I won't clean you off =3 Friend list cleaning will happen in a week.

Tuesday: PBL class in the morning. And then in the lab class we learned how to properly measure medications using syringes and needles (we are given our own pack of accessories to practice!). We all agreed that the biggest frustration wasn't to measure the medications, but to GET ALL THE BUBBLES OUT OF THE SYRINGES. Air bubbles tend to stick to the wall of the syringe (surface adhesion) and it's really hard to get them out, so during the lab everyone were all flicking the syringe trying to get the air bubble out of the needle. FRUSTRATION. It's important to get the air bubble out to get an accurate measurement. People who use insulin would know what I'm talking about... because insulin is measured in a very small "unit" (smaller than 0.1ml) so it is crucial to measure insulin to its exact unit (too much insulin can knock someone out while too little will not bring down the person's blood sugar). The size of an air bubble is bigger than 1 unit so it is crucial to get the air bubble out. My finger hurts from flicking the syringe lol OTL. Patho seminer after lab.

Air bubble sticking to a syringe.

It's easy to get a big bubble like the photo above out, but it's very hard to get a small one out of an insulin syringe because it's thinner than a pencil to begin with.

Wednesday: Learning plan conference w/ clinical instructor and pathophysiology lecture like usual.

Thursday: St. Paul's @ 0630 OTL. Morning shift + 2 patients (89 & 28 yrs old) + OR orientation = hard to be organized! I was running behind so much so I had to get my classmates to help me out ;_; and my RN wasn't that friendly and she was kinda scary lol. Though both of my patients are really nice so it wasn't stressful taking care of them. We had a 90 minutes orientation at the Operation Room area and it was really cool! The OR area at St. Paul's is quite small but I guess Vancouver didn't expect the population to expand so much 26 years ago? There are 14 ORs at St. Paul's but they are numbered from 1-15... can anyone guess which number isn't present? XD The OR area is pretty cramped (equipments all around the hallway), and the operation rooms are actually quite small (contrary to what movies show). Later in the term we will get to witness an operation from set up to finish once. I can't wait till it's my turn! I hope I'll get to see a cardiac surgery or one involved with cancer :3 After that we went back to the ward to finish things up... and I couldn't finish until 1230 @___@;; Went to McDonald's after class to get a Happy Meal cuz the Olympic toys are so adorable... and the cashier didn't tell me that they ran out on the toys until after I paid and he got all the food ready =_____= I'll have to go back next time to exchange for the toy. So troublesome grrr. False advertisement! D<

Friday: St. Paul's @ 0630 again. Today I overslept a little so I didn't have time to eat breakfast ;-; I thought I'm really organized today but at the end I still couldn't finish everything until 1230 OTL (and it was 1245 already after post-debrief so I missed lunch with maiea ;_; ) I really need better time management... If I had extra time today I would have asked my patient to play DS on wireless with me since she has a DS and she was playing it when I was busy with other stuff hahahaha j/k I felt bad for her since she was told to stay in bed for almost 24/7 (she has problem with her left foot) and she is quite energetic and what not :( Went to UBC afterwards to borrow more books and went to showing for a short while. Then I went to Aberdeen center and had a slice of Teriyaki Mochi Chicken pizza cuz I haven't had it for so long XD;

Saturday: All-you-can-eat sushi for lunch! Haven't had this for a while too. We went to Koi Sushi because we had a "buy-3-get-1-free AYCE" coupon. The food is okay here though I think I like Tomokazu better. It's $11.95 for lunch AYCE here (Tomokazu is $10.95). The yakitori is actually pretty good but the scallop cone has less scallop than the ones in Tomokazu. The tamago sushi actually tastes *disgusting* @_@. Though it's kinda nice that they put side-veggies for dishes like Teriyaki Chicken so you're not only eating meat and you are eating a little bit of veggies too lol. They also don't do the "only give you half of what you ordered" thing Tomokazu always does (but then I guess it's because we only ordered like 1 of everything to start off to make sure it tastes good before we order more of the same food). What I didn't like was that all our food was rushed out to us all within 2 minutes so our table was overflooded. The waitresses don't take their time to put food down properly (why are they so friggin rushed when the restaurant isn't even full?)... They put food at the edge of the table EVEN WHEN THE CENTER OF THE TABLE IS EMPTY. wtf? I almost elbowed the food. =_=; The manager there has bad attitude too... we asked them for more napkins (cuz we spilled tea) and the manager was like "I just gave you some 5 minutes ago" =_=!! It's just napkins! So yeah, I would go back to this place if we get another coupon ($36 for 4 people is pretty decent) but probably not if we have to pay $11.95 instead of $10.95 @ Tomokazu lol.
