During our last UK holiday of the year, LG and I - together with a small group of insa... lovely friends - decided to do some location hunting, starting with Dibley (aka Turville, Bucks). A detailed report on our trip has already been written by Maria Grazia at
Fly High, so I’ll go straight to the pics.
Since we didn’t have time to carefully re-watch the eps before our visit, I must admit we’ve been quite good at spotting the ‘right’ places... well, “it’s a little village” after all :D
THE Sleepy Cottage. In fact, the real Sleepy Cottage is the first around the corner, but THAT red door is unmistakable.
THE Pub. We know they had major refurbishments earlier this year, so we spent most of the time trying to find out if that was the real spot. Wonderful Fish & Chips, BTW.
Harry strolling by the church’s graveyard. Reminds me of JT in the (fake) graveyard in Milton (= Edinburgh hills). SIGH!
Harry having a little stroll to ‘nowhere in particular’. You can spot THE bench in the background, just beside the graveyard’s entrance.
‘Hand holding’ by the Pub: mind you, the village ends there.
The Sleepy cottage’s lane.
THE bench. LG couldn’t resist posing for a picture. We couldn’t, either *blushes*
It was such a lovely day: freezing but sunny. We had a little walk, just like Harry and Rosie did, and we’ve even found a puddle :) As usual, LG asked to be pictured beside it - but not inside it - and there is also a picture of the ‘behind the scenes’ :)
THE church: you can spot a plate with the names of the ‘Vicars of Turville’ just above Rosie’s head.
LG posing inside the church. We even thought about performing a little dance on the “It should have been me” tune...
The day after we headed for Hampstead (NW London), looking for St. John’s church, the one used in N&S for every sort of ceremonies (funerals and weddings). We missed the group visit last year, so we decided we had to go and see it. Thanks to the ever useful instructions on
Annette's site, we found the church.
The interior is quite the same, but we were looking for a certain pew...
... and LG found THE pew: the fourth row, according to Annette.
Then we moved outside, where the graveyard is.
The church’s door, dark blue in N&S, is now red, but the athmosphere is still there: such a quiet place, we loved it.
