So I was doing pretty decent monetarily speaking and I splurged a little and got some music albums, in listening to
Pyre by Nothing More, which is some of the recorded speeches made by
Alan Watts but put to music. There's a lot in the lyrics about life and the universe but the part that I like the most personally, is the last passagePeople can't be talked out of illusions. If a person believes that the earth is flat, you can't talk him out of that, he knows that it's flat. He'll go down to the window and see that its obvious, it looks flat. So the only way to convince him that it isn't is to say, "Well let's go and find the edge"
I like the framing and the set up this has. It's not about convincing the other person, it's about meeting them and discovering together. It neither assumes either is right or wrong, sure the one proposing the challenge may assume the other is wrong, but the act of seeking the answer together means that both are in the position to learn, thus both may be in the position to find something new they were previously mistaken about.
This is always how I prefer my approach over potential misinformation or deep seeded conflicts, to meet the perception and then walk toward the new information, together, either through genuine mutual conversation or some other means, reading articles, watching documentaries. The mutual pursuit of new information is always beneficial, even if it's something you think you already know, and it creates bonds and comradery that are so very important.
