life update
So what's been new in the past year?
The good:
- Met a girl, things have been wonderful, I think I'll probably marry this one... but we'll take it one day at a time
- My knees have improved a bit; still not dancing as much as I used to, but I can teach a class and not be in pain afterwards
- I've really gotten into audio this past year. Mostly headphones and small systems, and I'm designing/building my own amplifiers with a few projects going which is fun
The bad:
- Time, where has it gone?
- Money, where has it gone?
- I had some ridiculous flu/bronchitis/pneumonia thing in the fall that knocked me out for a solid 2-3 months. I'm better now, but wow did I lose a chunk of my life there.
The ugly:
- Thesis is killing me. Not literally, but figuratively works. I'm five years in with no end in sight, and motivation left me a long time ago. I've decided that I don't want to work in research when I'm done, but teaching is career suicide for my field. Employability is also poor for a non-research PhD, so I'm stuck up a creek sideways with no paddle. I've got half a mind to quit and make a run for it; cut my losses. Scary though.
