When You're Up You're Up and When You're Down You're Down

We are coming to the last couple days of Jay's three weeks on and as always stress levels are high, both jay and are basically physically and mentally exhausted. This last week was rough. It was Harry's bday but jay was on-call and it was F/C's last week of school. Jay was on call wednesday and again today. So it is me keeping down the fort until tomorrow evening. Things can only be put off for so long and overwheming chaos can only be kept at bay so long.

All of us gave also had a cold the past week. Una has been pretty miserable--fever, green and constant nose runnage. It would be nice to he able to just say good night at 9pm and just go to bed for a solid lovely 12 hours. Alas 'tis not my time to enjoy such things. I should be able to do that around 2015.

--------------------------------------

i wrote that about 2 1/2 weeks ago right before Jay went on break. It was autosaved and came back when i went to post something. My life is like a see-saw. Three weeks down and two up. Not that the down is always bad. Near the end you just are sick of being down and want to go up again. After two weeks up you are looking forward to down. Each has its positives and negatives. One thing that has made the three weeks on better is that they have added a weekend off. Jay went back today and he has this weekend off. I would prefer the middle weekend but that is minor quibbling. At the end of the two weeks we have walked in the glow of each other's majestic presence enough to suffice for the time being and both need to go back to our respective corners. It is hard having to discuss with another person should usually trivial questions such as when should i go to the grocery store?

Our downstate vacation was a good time. Jay was NOT ready or looking forward to another long road trip so soon after the one in May down to New Orleans. We visited the grand parent in-laws, we went to the Binder Park Zoo and fed the giraffes, went to the still open Bilbo's in Kalamazoo (the one in East Lansing was the scene of our first "real" date but it closed about 11 years ago). Harry was supposed to stay down there and then go to the Crane family cottage in Canada. He just turned 16 and I totally forgot that he now needs a passport to get into Canada--really.....so we had to bring him back home about which he was not happy. Jay said he wants to stay at home for the next vacation at the end of July but then he conceded he wants to do the dells and rent a cabin on Lake Michigan. His work schedule works with really making the summer break up nicely. When he is working i am signing the boys up for activities--like day camp and tennis lessons and when he is on break we do stuff.

So Jay went back to work and the boys started a week of day camp. I am enjoying some "me" time--of course, me time includes a nearly 2 year old and a nearly 3 month old but luckily if i say "let's go to the library" there is little or no bitching and i can drag them along anyway.

Things I am digging:
1. Iced Coffee. I am addicted. I rarely drink Diet Coke anymore.
2. my prescription Ray Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses. I bit the bullet and got a pair. I have only desired them for about 25 years!
3. Pop Culture Happy Hour on NPR. An hour long podcast every friday by the finest collection of geeks anywhere.
4. beautiful sock yarn. knitting socks for small feet is so much better than knitting socks for grown up feet. Fast and cute.
5. the book The Old Man and the Sea
