The Uniqueness of Filipino Nurses
A while ago, I was forced to attend a seminar titled "The Uniqueness of Filipino Nurses".. The speaker was Carl E. Balita.. He's only 35 but earns more than a Filipino Nurse can earn at the US.. He chose to do what he love most and what he did best, and that's speaking.. He's an RN, RM and an MAN.. At 35, he has achieved so much that he can stop right now and not work.. He owns a review center, St. Louie Review Center, he's a Business Consultant and is a dean of a medical school here in manila.. anyways..
He was asking the "factor" Filipino Nurses have that other nationalities do not have.. He relayed that in one of his speeches, he explained that Filipino Nurses are Transcultural.. This means that because Philippines have been under lots of Countries in the past, we have adopted to their culture so when we go to other countries, we know how to respect their culture.. Also, Filipino Nurses have this certain "care" for their patients.. Who would sing to his patient in a coma until he falls asleep? Who could stay at the bedside of the patient until the pain felt by his patient is releived? Who would take care of an elderly, treating him as his own relative? Who would hold the hand of the patient every time he's in pain? Only Filipino Nurses have the capacity or the willingness to do that, he says.. And yes, I think I can agree to what he said.. I may not be on the position to say that because I haven't worked outside the country yet, but I believe that Filipino Nurses have that certain factor that's why they're in demand in other countries.. In the US, the speaker said, he saw this certain flyer of a Nursing home saying "We guarantee you the best service and best facilities.. We have the best Filipino Nurses that takes care of your elders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week".. Damn.. Now why would they advertise such if they don't believe in the service rendered by Filipinos? It's not only in the Nursing profession.. I'm speaking of Filipinos in general.. In Hongkong, it's way cheaper if they get a helper from mainland China than from other countries, but why do you think they prefer helpers (OFWs) from the Philippines.. German women are definitely taller, prettier and sexier than Filipino women, but why do you think Japan still get's entertainers from Philippines?? A thought to ponder upon..
so now, I feel so pressured.. I'm thinking, what do I do best that I love most? uhhhh.. I love making other people laugh, that's for sure.. Is my course really for me? Yes, I've learned to love it wholeheartedly.. let me analyze.. I like giving and not asking for anything in return.. I love helping and not waiting for that person to give anything back to me.. hmmmmm.. maybe, just maybe, NURSING is for me..
Dear God, I'm asking you to guide all the student nurses who are studying very hard to be of service for other people.. Help us to make a difference so that our country could rise up from being one of the third world countries..
