On Tuesday I attended a Franklin Covey seminar entitled FOCUS: Achieving Your Highest Priorities. I was provided this experience though Dress for Success. I had to write a brief summary of my experience and I wanted to post that here and hopefully allow myself further reflection on my experience.
This was a very positive experience for me. Getting to spend the day with professionals and learn how they organize their schedules and events using the Franklin Covey system gives me a great advantage over many. As our presenter taught us the system and explained defining our values, roles, goals, and personal statement it gave me clarity to understanding my purpose in my professional and personal life. As our presenter said, “Because we don’t know what is really important to us, everything seems important. Because everything seems important, we have to do everything. Other people, unfortunately, see us as doing everything, so they expect us to do everything. Doing everything keeps us so busy, we don’t have time to think about what is really important to us.” I think this sums up my pre-Franklin Covey self. I understand now that since I was without a clear plan for myself that I was without a plan at all. This seminar was a real “kick-start” for getting my life on a track for success in all things I do. Without Dress for Success this would not have been possible for me.
I have a 21-day commitment to myself to continue to use the system. Hopefully a habit will form in those days. I will plan to post another entry on April 24th about my experience during those 21 days and any changes I see in myself.
Are any of you fellow LJ'ers Franklin Covey users?
