Question
I am currently reading Gifts of the Desert by Kyriacos C. Markides. In Chapter 2, page 28, he says, "Perhaps he was planting the seeds in the Arizona desert so that American Orthodox saints might be produced in due time. They could then translate the texts and chants into a spirituallly meaningful English in the same way that the Orthodox missionaries in Africa whom I had met in Cyprus had translated the liturgical texts into several African languages. They adopted Orthodoxy to local customs, so much so that a bishop would join the congregation in an African dance during the Eucharist."
What does this mean? Does the bishop stop the liturgy and they do a traditional African dance then come back and finish celebrating the liturgy? I'm so confused as to what is going on. Is this Orthodox?
