La Luz for the weekend

After five rounds of sleeping, my body is finally getting its groove back, and I'm beginning to enjoy my one-week leave... Wheee!

What better way to begin the 9-day break than to spend the weekend at the beach in the company of good friends. The unit stayed overnight at La Luz Resort (San Juan, Batangas; check out their website: www.laluzresort.com). It was raining quite hard when we left Manila, but I guess we were a lucky bunch - except for a slight drizzle Saturday night, God spared us from the heavy rains that drenched Manila over the weekend. The weather was perfect!

It was blissfully relaxing - truly a well-deserved break to cap off my first project - and I never felt sooo pampered since I started working. The place is not your typical people-packed Boracay or smooth-sanded Palawan, but it's got the cleanest, clearest water that for me, altogether defines a beach with class.

For the first time, too, it was an outing with no pressure to follow any schedule. We arrived 2 PM Saturday afternoon, just in time to check-in and take a good lunch buffet. Afterwards it was checking out the place.

The first thing that welcomes you is the sight of trees lining the pebble-covered pavement; to your right are the rooms and lofts; breezy cabanas form the line of sight to the left; from here, getting to the shore proper is just about five stone steps down.

Most of Saturday was climbing some of the rock formations that jutted into the open sea, late-afternoon swimming, snorkeling (swimming with fishies!!!) and playing cards (oh, how we missed Bridge and Hearts!). But the ultimate treat for the day was the one-hour full-body massage at the cabana after dinner. The constant kneading at the hard (overly stressed!) knots in my body, soft lounge music in the background, and the breeze tickling my skin were enough to almost lull me into relaxed sleep.

Sunday was reserved for watching the sun rise and early morning swimming - the warmth of the sun and coldness of the water provided a delicious tension. A good buffet broke the fast of the night and cups of coffee gave just the right kick for kayaking. For an hour and a half, Mana and I paddled our way outwards, saw the clear turquoise of the water turn to deep blue, and bonded like there was no tomorrow.

We left the place around lunchtime, taking with us the laughter and the pictures - what seemed a month of memories. I'd definitely want to come back here for a weeekend. Anyone game for another off-peak getaway, lemme know!

P.S. Umitim ako! Well, hardly recognizable but at least meron. Hahaha.

friends, places
