Let's start this off by saying, simply: Nobody on Live Journal is 'brand new'.
That is to say that information travels fast here. So I know damn well that when someone
tried to put the kabosh on the exploitation of the MM & EJO pics, within 24 hours everyone
in an LJ community consisting of Adama & Roslin fans, Roslin fans, Mary McDonnell fans
and any other related fandom, therein, KNEW ABOUT THOSE PICTURES! So, I am not even
going to entertain the people who claim someone people who have no problem using the
pics as ICON are unaware. Spare me.
The truth is this: I am pissed off. Why am I pissed off you may ask? Because I saw those
pics on Facebook. I even had a few friends who are also friends of the photographer post
those pics on my profile. I was elated. I was grateful. It was an awesome gesture. But not
once did I think, "Oh! Let me take these on over to every fandom in the universe and exploit
them!" Or, "Let me ignore the fact that these are personal pics from someone's photo album
on Facebook, and make some icons outta them." Who does that?
If they were your pictures, would you have appreciated this? Would you have turned a blind eye
if say, one day you met Mary and Eddie and took a pic or two with them and you treasured the
moment and put it on your personal space on Facebook and then, let's say some fangirls
decided they had the right to take them, not credit you, and drop them every where so they could
fawn and drool and whatever else they do?
Fuck no! You would be pissed! I know plenty of LJers who don't like people taking pics off
their journals without asking. And even when you ask it's an emphatic NO. I know LJers who
have yet to share their Dragon Con pics. And that is their right. It's everyone right to protect
THEIR SHIT. So yeah, this is why I am pissed. Because everyone on LJ should know better.
Anyone using that pic is doing it because they don't give a shit. There is no excuse. As awesome
as those pics are, and as badly as I want to take them to kinkos and blow them up and turn them
into posters, I won't. Why? Because I practice restraint. Oh, and because I have respect!
