Saturday was one of those low-key weekend days when nothing terribly new or exciting happens, but I went to bed tonight realizing how much I enjoyed it.
1. Rode BART into SF and met up in the Sunset with a friend from high school. Since I hadn't spoken with said person in over ten years, it feels not quite accurate to actually categorize him as a friend (at least not yet), but it was surprisingly easy enough to slide right into two hours of converation with him over sushi and then coffee at a nearby cafe. He moved to the Bay Area about five months ago, and we talked about traveling, San Francisco Democrats vs. Denver Democrats, dating, our attitudes towards our careers, gay marriage & why Too Many Damn People Are Focused On It, etc.
At one point, we both shook our heads and uttered the inevitable "Wow, it's been twelve years since graduation..." line, but thankfully conversation did not dwell on adventures during senior year terribly long. In many ways, neither of us has changed in the significant ways that led us to become friends in school. I'm still opinionated and sarcastic, and he's still opinionated, gossipy, and very talkative (we seem to still share some of the same interests). There were the occaisonal moments of mild disagreement over politics here and there, but we both seemed respectful of each other's opinions. He's invited me and The Lady Friend to dinner at his place in a couple of weeks, and I'm looking forward to possibly rebuilding a relationship with him.
2. Read several more chapters of
Midnight's Children which I'm really enjoying so far. Why oh why did I allow it to sit on my shelf for two years before I opened it?
3. And finally, clean clothes! Not to mention clean towels, sheets and washcloths too. The Lady Friend and I dragged (okay fine, we drove it over in the car) ten bags of dirty laundry to the neighborhood laundromat after avoiding during more than a load or two at a time for almost three months. A few hours later, everything was folded and put away. It's a great relief to no longer have giant piles of dirty things clogging up the closets, and, hello, socks. Welcome back to regularly appearing in my life!
