Grand Master's Flash

Do you like chess?  Me neither. Ludicrous game for child prodigies and maths geeks. I don't get it AT ALL.
Although I did like the musical.

Anyway, if you do like chess, you cerebral rascals, here's something to get your juices flowing:

It's a three-dimensional board, just in case you get bored with the usual board. But it still won't turn you into Bobby Fischer. Which is just as well, since he's dead.

By sheer coincidence, I'm currently reading a book called "Bobby Fischer Goes To War." It chronicles the controversy surrounding the world championship match in Iceland between Fischer  and Boris Spassky in 1972.  Happily, you don't have to be a chess player to enjoy it, otherwise I wouldn't enjoy it.  It's more of a Cold War thriller with rooks and knights (whatever they are).   Fischer is portrayed as a lean, mean chess machine. One observer describes him playing:

"fiercely, ferociously, going for his opponents' jugular.  He was a killer, a remorseless, conscienceless, ice-blooded castrator".

Meanwhile, the book mentions a guide on how to conduct yourself during a chess match. It contains 300 empty pages, followed by the words: "SHUT UP".

So I will.
