A New Scientist reader asks: “What would happen if a man took the contraceptive pill either once accidentally, or daily?”
In response, one correspondent suggests prolonged use of the pill would lead to breast growth and fleshier hips and buttocks. Of greater interest is the Aberdeen reader who took part in a medical trial involving injection of hormones contained in the pill.
“I don’t know what happened to my testosterone levels, but I wasn’t interested in going to the gym any more. More than usual, I wanted to eat chocolate and chat to my female friends. Yes, I am being serious. Little things like events in a movie would start me crying.”
He says the experiment gave him an insight into what it feels like to be a woman, concluding:
“It was an interesting experience, but not one I would wish to repeat."
