It's bloody cold at night in the Adirondacks in early September.

I had a complex dream last night in which I was observing the proceedings in a pagan version of family court. In one memorable scene, kids who were being sentenced for a crime had to come to court wearing the clothes they were wearing when they committed the crime. Before they went before the judge they were instructed to strip naked and throw their clothes into a roaring fire in the courtroom's enormous fireplace. After the sentencing they were given new clothes in which to start a new life untainted by past misdeeds. I woke up wondering groggily how I could incorporate elements of this dream into my practice. When I was fully awake I laughed at myself.

My new intern started today and she seems to be intelligent and motivated and knowledgeable about what she is doing. Knock on wood.

Fishing is fun.

Flocks of monarch butterflies migrate through Fire Island on the way south in early October, and there's a butterfly tree in the middle of the woods on a hiking trail by one of the campgrounds there. Witnessing this while camping there several years ago was one of my favorite experiences ever. I really, really want to go there for a day during Columbus Day weekend and see it again. Anyone want to jump on a ferry with me?

I think S and her silly friend who finds me irresistible may be coming back to NYC next weekend. If so they are emphatically not invited to the testicle odyssey.

I really, really, really need a girlfriend.
