Breastfeeding Question

May 12, 2007 11:05

I'm starting to think I should just leave the pump attached (and running) to my breasts and only remove it when baby wants to nurse... maybe *that* would help. *sighs* I normally pump 1-2oz per pump when she's taken a bottle, and .5oz per pump if she's nursed (pumping afterwards per LC to stimulate production and to ensure breasts are emptied). Baby currently takes about 3oz per feeding (if by bottle), 1/2 formula and 1/2 breastmilk each time, and 1oz of mixed milk after most nursing sessions. If I have a "bad pump run" (bunch of 1oz pumps), then baby ends up having to have extra formula.

Currently taking Reglan (day 5) and Fenugreek (day 11 I think) - someone mentioned it took two weeks for fenugreek to show results for them so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I'm going to get some Mother's Milk Tea after payday (Tuesday), if I can *find* the stuff. Anyone know if Wild Oats would carry it? Those folks there are the most UNhelpful staff I've ever seen. I had to find the fenugreek there on my own, as the checker didn't even know where their supplements were... Also am looking for brewer's yeast to make the lactation cookies and am not sure where to buy that either. Anyone know if Wild Oats would also carry it? That's as close to "health store" as we have around here, I think.

I am not going to despair of getting off the supplement, not yet. Still things to try. But if we don't ease off it soon, I've got to get a prescription for the formula for WIC, as it costs twice as much per can of powder ($25 vs. $13) as everything else. WIC worked with me for month one, giving me a partial month without the prescription, but it will run out eventually.

Am feeling rather depressed about having to start work on Monday.
