Some sort of cold thing has struck around the office this week, leaving me as the sole healthy gal around. Kinda scary that this is the second round of sickness that has been around me and I've been okay. I hope my luck holds there ( Read more... )

I need to find an icon of each of the prominent Vulcans from each ST series... I like the Vulcans. ;-)

I was told I was a bit nuts because my favorites were the Vulcans and the Klingons. Friends were like... "You're into contrasts, aren't you?"

I'll work on that!

And, you should totally come and get me when you're gonna go to Target. I've got this nifty 10% off EVERYTHING that I hardly ever use. *G*

Thanks for the info. I will try to give her a call sometime this week and see if she's gonna jobhunt or just stay home for the babies' sake. One of the agencies I had has a lot of short-term accounting assignments that I couldn't afford to take that might tide her over til maternity leave.

That was kind of my thought, but knowing the nature of the business, it doesn't surprise me. November and December are crippling slow months for them even in a good year. Last year they had payroll mishaps on the last payroll of Nov and the first one of Dec, and had to delay our paychecks on the last Dec payroll.

remember not to touch any light wiring especially because you are expecting. Most are covered in lead. Target brand lights and decorations have warnings in the back and it's been found that many light sets have lead on the wires, warning or no. Crazy isnt it?

This reminds me (unfortunately) of the job I took after the major layoff at the bank I loved working for. Bastards laid me off a week before Christmas--this after I left the bank early and lost the compensation package doing so to go work for them.

I think most companies do this so they can arrange their budgets for the new year according.

Or they're just bastards! ;-)

Well, while I know at least the owner qualifies as an outright bastard... Nov and Dec are their "slow" months. They specialize in vocational school advertising and no one wants to start school around the holidays. Back before they blew the company finances to hell and back, there was a reserve to cover expenses during the bad months. I figure they realized they were not going to make their midmonth payroll and opted for layoffs.

From the makeup of the staff they did release, they apparently closed down their print shop entirely, the commercial production room, and the graphic arts room. They only kept two of their media staff, so I wonder how much commercial advertising they are even bothering with anymore. The survivors are all internet advertising folks. I would have felt bad if Panda's lost her job, but I told her when I left that it was ugly and would get uglier in the slow season.
