Adventures in Renting...

Hubby crawled under the house twice trying to figure out where in Hades the pilot for the furnace was. He then called his dad, a career man with the gas company, who also crawled under the house and made a few determinations.

A) F-i-l wants to know why anyone would take the furnace out of a perfectly good inside closet space and put it *under* the house. There's modifications made for whenever this was done, and the original furnace closet is now a cramped linen closet with a vent pipe up one side.

B) The furnace under the house was once a manual-light pilot. Someone added some sort of electrical pilot system in there, and apparently something's gone wrong with the electrical bits, because he couldn't even get gas to the pilot at all. The blower is working and blows air into the house, but nothing's letting gas get to the burners and actually produce heat.

So we have to call the landlady, who will drag her feet and FINALLY send her dad over in about 2-3 weeks, who is probably the culprit for the converted pilot system in the first place (probably got tired of having to come light it for tenants).

It took us a month to get the dishwasher fixed, and they still haven't finished painting the board they replaced on the front porch roof in like September. Oh well. It's their problem if it rots (again). I've told her every time I've had a reason to speak to her that it still isn't painted.

It better be an ASAP fix. I'm not going into December with no heat, mild Arkansas temperatures or not.
