cool pictures

I have to ask, about "the waffle". A cool spectacle, but that damn thing contained enough brand new lumber for me to rebuild this house several times over. WTF? is BM all about lasrge scale waste?

is that the wood used in the Waffle was brought in from the scrap pile of a Canadian lumber mill by a team of some 90 Belgian artists, most of whom were first time burners. The true name of the piece was Uchronia, and it was supposed to represent a symbol of hope & inspiration, beamed back through time from the future to us. At night, they lit it up using heavy green floods, and held some pretty intense dance parties in it (see the video above)...

Last year, as word of Katrina slowly trickled in, they put out a call for supplies, and then a team of burners spent 6 months distributing a considerable pile of food and helping out down in New Orleans. There was a Camp Katrina this year, where they urged people to donate, not burn, tho I think the primary recipient was to be a Reno low income housing project.

And this year had the introduction of projects to balance out the carbon output of all that fire. Not sure of how well that's worked out, just yet. Conspicuous destruction does play a part, but hopefully it more than balances out
