Shit

Left my wallet at the office; I was too busy rushing out to catch my bus and talking to G on my cell. With my bike, such would be no grief; I can get around and the bike car conductors know me, as I've been on the same route and time for a long time. Without my transit pass, I'm hosed; some of the other conductors recognize me form the last few weeks, but from Caltrain to home is a couple of miles through seedy neighborhoods; doable, but not fun at all. And in the morning, it'd be no better, and would take much longer. I bit the bullet and called the one local guy i know, my boss; he's going to go fetch the damn thing and meet me at the station to hand it over. I am most grateful, especially as he seems to have caught my cold...

Sigh.Anyways, now on to ramble.

Sacramento is having their Pride Celebration this weekend, and the Bears of the Sac hold a pool bbq /slumber party after the Pride festivities end. I'd commited to go with Dan before I'd even met G, so I called him up and invited him along somewhat cautiously this afternoon. Equally cautious, he took a few hours to think about it, and then called to clear up a few points. He was concerned about how well he'll fit in (no worries I think; he's no bear physically, but he's quite the personable sort). Once that was settled, he then shyly brought up what would happen if one or the other of us might get, err, interested in someone else at the party. Well. It's really not a play party; people actually sleep at the slumber party, even. But I assured him I'd be comfortable seeing him getting out and being social, or even getting it on with someone; one thing I am not is the jealous sort, at least not easily. G is very eager to be out and about more in the world of bears; I think we both agree that we are not exactly LTR material, and he def could use some more friends - his last partner essentially forbade him from knowing other bears. I promised to be there any time he felt he needed me, and to leave with him if he finds the scene too much to handle. I do really think he'll have a good time, tho.

Ack. Boss called from my desk and said my wallet wasn't there; mild panic and five minutes of searching on both ends, and he dug it up. Whoo..

J & I are to talk over 'Hug details tonight, assuming I'm not too damned late; we also need to recover some props from the house, as he didn't gather them all up after. Everyone so far has told me it was a very good party, tho. S'a shame to have missed it, but Portland was more than an adequate trade off, me thinks- up there, I put more effort into dancing more than fooling around.... I also got a date with the guy off the chats again; should be fun, but I sense a certain neediness about him that's- less than attractive. He is good enough company, but I don't think i'd seem him again, save he's told me an old flame is moving out soon to move in with him. Well and fine, that; if he wants to hang and fool around in the meantime, that'll work.

And then there is Howard. Left to our own devices, we'd be already slipping on timetables and the prep work. Not this time, however; Spiraleena has been coming down, helping him pack, and his freinds and lovers are always checking in, giving advice and support. D-Day is currently set for the 20th; he'll take a bus to Reno to me up with R, and take off from there. This is going to work, going to work, going to work, right? He wants a computer to go with tho, as he's become near addicted to using his Handspring for contacts, notes, the ususal. It doesn't help that he knows that a) I'm a pretty bad comp addict myself, what with hauling my laptop back n forth each day, and b) I currently have two laptops and a handheld around, not to mention Kendegus, the machine he's been using for so long. The whole thing has come up because his Handspring is MIA...

My main concern is that it would be more of a distraction than a useful tool for him. Maybe; he was getting a lot of good use out of the Handspring. What with it's battery issues and lack of support these days, it wasn't a good fit for a free flying fey anyways. The most intriguing option is to give him my iPaq, which is something I've been considering for a while now. It's small, got a fair amount of functionality, and I have a spatload of accessories for it (like the camera sleeve) that would be good on the road. And it uses rechargable batteries. For me, the iPaq is a convinience widget, to the point that I've actually worn it out bar hopping, for my contacts and calender and occasional short journal entry noodling. I could get by without it tho, and trimming down my geek stuff would be a good thing...

The other two options are giving him the Libretto- but it has no working battery, and may or may not be otherwise reliable- the clock battery is starting to go. And last, giving him this laptop, so I could go on and get something better, like an iBook or a tablet. My long term plan for giving him a computer (his old machine I chopped up for parts ages ago, and I've promised to replace it), for when he was to get back AND settled in somewhere safe and outside my place, was along those lines. Not for now, tho; my laptop, the lovingly named Inferno, would be too much of a distraction unil then. He's gotta have a job, or at least an income first. Ditto the Libretto, working or no.

So back to the ipaq.

Ah. Boss found my wallet and brought it over; he arrived just as the latest Northbound train was pulling out. Gonna be one of those nights, apparently :P

I'd hoped to send the iPaq to a refurb shop to get the screen cleaned & battery upgraded, plus it's missing it's stylus- first thing to go on iPaqs usually is that cheap assed stylus latch they used. I'd forgotten about getting it fixed, and just got good at using my nails to tap on it- it's a bit late to get fixed now, I fear. Still, it would do, as it would do everything that he says he needs a machine to do except edit pictures- but it can take pictures, right? Address Book, Calender, Notes (audio and written), and camera. A Mail archive, tho no mail itself- sure, you can wire it up with a modem, but that's too distracting, and besides, I'm shutting down his mail account (through my account, anyways). With the battery pack sleev I have, the iPaq can run for some five hours on it's own. And it can be recharged with just a wall adaptor - no interconnect cable/cradle/batteries required. It's ideal for the travelling sort, which was, I realize now, one of my subterranian impulses for buying it, and in buying the accessories I've gotten for it. I tend to sneak up on these things, sometimes...

I'll talk it over with Spiraleena and Owen.

Yay! I got asked interview questions. But darn it, now I got to make answers up... :P

Ok, wallet secure, on the train and i'll get home at.. 8:15.

Shit shit shit.
