So I finally watched it.
SPOILERS!!!!!
It was weird. It was a mixture of "what in the seven hells is this and why did you need to make it?" and "aww, that's cute" and "that's interesting". So I have mixed feelings.
Let's see.
· I liked Emily's story: she has always been a character I understood and her husband's passing and her trying different things, one more crazy than the next one (I laughed so hard with the Mari Kondo moment), to find a life after that got to me. And I love how in the end she decides to move to an island and live a pacific life there by herself (and with her strange maid who, I've got to tell you: she's not speaking Spanish -it's a mixture of Spanish with English and tongue noises).
· Lorelai felt out of character to me: like the actress had forgotten about her and sometimes couldn't reach the character. Plus, her stories came out of the blue (what's up with that terrible Stars Hollow musical?, did it need to be THAT LONG?, it was madness).
· I loved how Rory's life was a complete mess (and not the perfect life we could have expected): no job, no home, no boyfriend and no idea what she wanted to do. I loved seeing her with Logan (they fit, and he's cute, I like him), and seeing them under those circumstances (an affair seems like the right thing for their age, there's no other way they could have been seeing each other on and off at that point). I liked how she ended up as editor of the Gazette and the idea of her writing an autobiography. I enjoyed seeing Jess with a business and on his feet, and even the sad note of him missing her (although I am not sure if that could have worked). But Dean's scene was completely off, maybe it's what it needed to be (two ex's with that kind of story stumbling upon another) but I wouldn't have missed it.
· Lane and Zack: I was kind of cool that they have a family and the group but something was off for me too. I don't know what it was.
· Paris' appearance was too weird: what's she doing running a pregnancy clinic? And she was way too aggressive and that portrait of her with kids doesn't feel real (I can't picture her pregnant).
· Sookie's absence makes no sense, unless they had already shot 3 episodes when the fan movement made them call her at the last minute to shoot just one scene!
· The seasons: I really thought this was going to be a metaphorical thing, like "winter - everyone is sad", "spring - things start to look better", idk. So I was a little dissapointed by that.
· The ending: what kind of ending is that? I get it makes a circle and it's open so you can think what they probably want you to think or anything else you prefer, but it's kind of wrong. I thought at least we'd see Rory a bit more fixed (with a money-earning-job at least) and she drops her pregnancy as a last line and that's it. Oh, and that's wrong too: it doesn't feel right that Rory would go through that; I know she's not 16 but still, it short of makes her look like her mother 2.0 and they are quite different. I don't know.
Oh, I did love seeing Peter Krause on screen! And Bailey De Young too!
