Uni started on Monday and I have been unable to do anything Fun. Have already had to wait a whole goddamn day to see this, after a whole week of normal waiting. NOT HAPPY UNIVERSE.
That said:
Not one but two extra jolts outta that continued first scene. *Man*. Hat tipped. Expecially for the degree to which Jax's emotional concern for Clay jumps out at you. Hadn't expected that.
Yup. Clay dude. Gotta love teh Clay. That's a leader right there.
There is nothing not to love about Unser.
More retelling. Wouldn't it be much more powerful to leave the Jax/Opie conversation imagined, pick it up AFTER the obligatory catchup... focus on the emotion and not the transmission...?
And more! seconds after we see Clay shot, we're told Clay's critical, we're told he was shot(Potter/Roosevelt) then we're told he's critical again - via Jax/Tara. Again: PADDING MUCH? Four legs script editor good...
Post Traumatic Tara = Good Tara. Lovely and blunt and brutal and interesting. It can't last. It's too good and satisfying and brilliant to last.
Tig inna car. Couldn't even take in what he was up to, 'cos my brain's going OMG SO WRONG
zzzzzzzzzzz letters retelling zzzzzzzzzzzz
Back to Tig, still wrong. Silly action scene is silly. But enjoyable. Don't tell me... there's a video game in the works or something, that'd explain it. SILLY SILLY SILLY.
Big dumb chase scene. How did Leroy get in the car so fast/catch up so fast? what's with hoodornamentcam? and isn't it telling that Tig took out his woman heh.
And that lovely 20 seconds at the clubhouse... Tig: "I don't give a shit" :) Happy: "He's got to die, like a lot."
... and yanno I totally misheard Jax's "No more rogue shit" as "No more emotion". I like my version better. *invokes trousers of time*
Aaaah. Irish tart MUST be Irish 'cos she's done up all pagany cleavage like. ;-/
And just when you think it's safe... what was shaping up to be a reasonably controlled & involving Gemma/Jax scene gets bogged down in all that How do you know all this, Why are you telling me this... jesus enough already. And how stilted is all that "your father" business...
But that said: it worked. Even though there was this point about halfway through where Jax's vulnerability threw my brain into timewarp and I totally thought for a second I was looking at Nathan from QAF - suddenly there's this young and lost person sitting there. Hunnam may not be my favourite actor ever but he has *something*. I'll give him that.
Excellent! ptsd!Tara pwns Vintage Gemma. This I like. Tara's soooo dead, right? But who'll be behind the arras? (Poor old Unser has to cop it somehow...)
Hmmm. Despite everything, the ep must be doing something right 'cos we got to the end without hitting the showdown - and it was a surprise. Where did that hour go? Have to applaud that.
In sum: Tig Tig Tig and sod the rest. I can forgive the rather dull and slow expository sequences of the episode - hell, I can forgive the entire season's telling not showing - for Tig's scenes today. Especially at the hospital with Clay. Grud Bless You Kurt for never ever letting me forget ***why*** they're my OTP. Which means Don't Die Tiggy is warring with Die In Clay's Arms (Or All Over His Hospital Bed, preferably by some kind of hideous Tara/Gemma needlestick bleedout accident) in the what-I-want stakes.
On a general note: I want to know how precarious the club's position is - they're a skeleton crew as is. Does this mean we're going to see someone try and patch them over next season? (and will there be anyone they're not at bleedin' war with?) Does the increasing number of city/Oakland etc scenes mean we'll see the series migrate from Charming? I hope not. Apart from anything else, we could do with regular reappearances of the wonderful Vivica... not to mention Roosevelt's missis.
