Big Love s5 as bad as, if not worse than, s4. Tedious and soapie; I think we hit the shark roundabout 4.1.
Sore everywhere that hit the ground yesterday. Shoulder not working properly, grr.
One of my (and sister's) all-time favourite preschoolers (Mr Designed Water Treatment Plants/Gave Soy Yoghurt Making Instructions For News at age 3), now "nearly a little bit 7", has won an Encouragement Award at the local garden centre for growing a 200gm tomato. The newspaper article describes him as having been a regular at the centre since birth :) I can well believe it. Beautiful picture of him grinning avec son fruit. YOU GO BOY.
ETA: am linking to
the picture in the newspaper because (a) it's already in the public domain, in print and online, with his parents' consent and (b) he's so wonderfully proud of his 'mato.
Nice morning (for a given value of nice) with Mum & Dad.
Dad not on the planet; hardly talking to Mum or participating when she's talking about her condition etc, then back to self-importantly handing out facts when she's out of the room. Bit fed up with him actually, but have to mitigate because the fact she's dying is clearly scaring him to death. Bottom line is: he's no use to fish nor fowl at the moment. Plus ca change.
At least when he was drinking he engaged with us occasionally, even if it was just to be horrible. Not entirely sure the non-yukky-physical-side pluses of sobriety are outweighing the minuses from Mum's perspective (but life for her is definitely easier on a practical level, so it's still a Good Thing).
Mum: meeting with chemo people yesterday, has declined politely to partake. Situation much as expected - "here, you can have this horrific time-consuming treatment and get really sick for months on the offchance it might slow the tumours down by a little bit, maybe, if you're in the lucky 15% and you can actually handle the ferrying about and horrible side-effects, which in your condition probably isn't likely". She feels (quite sensibly imho) that there are better ways to spend her remaining time. Looks a lot better than she did last week - think she's glad to have that meeting out of the way.
Transplanted small suckering nandina from Mum's garden to sister's - was important to Mum. If they take, they should help brighten up the yard a bit (found a boggy spot under leaky eaves they should enjoy). Sister nonplussed, having found two leeches in the house - such a thing is not usual for this area. Investigating...
