...barely dinnertime, feels like midnight :)
Madly ambitious dinner should knock another 4 off the
52 recipes meme - they count even if I fuck it up, right? ;) In which case 42 down, 10 to go.
Today is: rhubarb custard tart, pork vindaloo, fennel vinaigrette and cumin naan as a side. Sitrep: made, slow-cooking, made, waiting for dough to rise. And on that note, Liebe ist fur Alle Da is *the* best breadmaking soundtrack bar none. Whack on the first three tracks and even a 15-minute knead flies by.
Still enjoying Misfits :) want to share it with
sabadine but my system seems to have decided it won't burn to video DVD any more (data's fine... que?)
Saw Mum & Dad briefly; loooong chat with sister afterwards.
Dad's falling over lots again - barely leaves the house. Mum afraid to leave him - more than she should be, according to my sister, but still. Still no neuro or whatever reason for his falls, still no warning beforehand. He seems to be giving up a bit... stopped taking his supplements, hasn't started the anti-smoking stuff (despite a diagnosis of emphysema which neither he nor Mum has technically admitted to yet); very depressed due to his remaining brother being told chemo etc hasn't worked. Both of them admitting they have to move, but round here is too expensive; both refuse to even look at graduated living sort of things, or move out of town. That'd be admitting too much :( Meanwhile sister still having to deal with Kafkaesque demands from Centrelink, but has applied for part-time position at the other preschool, which (if she gets it) should mean she and Nephew can stay renting where they are (which takes pressure off Mum and Dad who are insisting they find a place big enough for all four rather than being sensible about retirement villages etc. That probably sounds harsh, but it's face facts time. They Can't Keep On On Their Own.
Hubby cross and rude and antisocial, as per - he really can't handle them. Trying not to be cross with him - suspect it may be because seeing them so changed makes him worry about *his* parents (who are older than mine, but in much better health & financial position) and the male Run Away, Isn't Happening La La La reflex kicks in :(
ETA: and the results are in. I'd say positive: naan tasted great, slightly overcooked so next time it's +5 or so on the rise time, and say -3 in the oven, closely supervised. Vindaloo - really nice, but a bit mild - increase the chili next time. Custard tart - a bit eggy for me (not a baked sweet person), but hubby liked it; good one for when his Dad comes round. Fennel salad - unreserved win.
