More library additions and T3's wedding

Friday June 1

Fun afternoon on my day off. First, Caron and I developed a Pizza Hut craving. Finding a coupon deal sealed the decision. I also signed up for the Summer Reading Program at WCPL. Even more library additions have been made! The library looks wonderful! The new front desk area is larger and more inviting. The library is so…cozy now. The coffee shop is also coming along nicely.

T3’s wedding was the next day. Whenever I thought about attending…I felt sad. It was hampering my decision on attending. Tina, wise woman that she is, knew why. Seeing a couple so in love, being eternally united…would make my own separation pain more intense. Finally understanding my feelings, I looked more favorably on my old roomie’s nuptials.

Saturday June 2

After Mapquesting the directions to Indy, and the way home from the reception, I was set to leave. Like so many intricate and complex tasks, I buck and groan at simply STARTING. Once I start moving, I achieve the momentum to remain committed.

The wedding itself was elegant. I arrived, changed clothes, chatted with Taylor friends, and was seated. Except, since I was early, I ended up placed with the family. LOL. I know I was Andrew’s roomie for a year, but wow! :-P Everyone was happy, the family and friends. Andrew and Laura’s youth pastor performed part of the ceremony. He told the gathering the story of how Andrew and Laura met, and how their relationship progressed. As the ceremony progressed, there were numerous cute moments, such as Laura’s impatience to say “I will” before the pastor had finished asking if she would take Andrew! Awww…

The reception hall was fancy and proper! It was at a golf club, and I was pleased I took that etiquette session at Taylor. As I found my table and chatted with friends, we noted Foundation turnout was low. Granted, other Taylor students were present. But the home floor was woefully underrepresented. Of the brothers there, I was excited to see Brady. We caught up on life and events since he graduated two years ago. We compared movie and video game notes, to accompany normal conversation. We grew hungry constantly, because the resort served dinner VERY late for some reason, and the main course was like an hour after the salad. But I stayed, wanting to see the first dance, and the speeches, and the cutting of the cake.

I finally left around nine. The trip back…was hectic right from the beginning. Rain, plus many drivers on the road, and an exit with little warning equaled my passing a key turn I needed for home. By the time I could turn around, I was dumped in an odd outskirt of Indy. After several back roads, passing a giant factory, and two stops for directions at gas stations, I made it back on the highway. I have NEVER been that utterly lost before. I grew up a tad that night, handing the situation on my own WITHOUT calling home. I talked to Tina on the drive back, both to hear her voice and to stay awake. When I reached home at last, I was exhausted and crashed in bed, knowing my attentiveness at church would be rough.

Quotes from Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice #14: The Ties That Bind:

“She led them into another chamber with screens along one wall. Behind them a projector lens protruded from the back wall. “But this is what we feared the most. Here we were forced to watch the torture of others. Sometimes it was people we knew, friends, family. The Absolutes used probe droids largely to monitor the Workers. They kept the vital statistics of all of us on file for easy tracking. They could find anyone if they needed to.” Irini stared at the blank screens. “They found out I was engaged to be married and found my fiancé.”

Obi-Wan drew in his breath. He could not imagine the kind of mind that would devise such a torture. This time, he did not feel he could ask Irini what had happened.

Irini glanced at him. “What they did not realize, the Absolutes, was that for the one being tortured it somehow helped to know others were watching. The Absolutes thought only of the pain they could inflict - the double pain of the victim and the watcher, you see. But the victims took courage from the idea that they would be brave for those who know and loved them. They would withstand anything for love. Probe droids are illegal on New Apsolon now. No one wants to bring back those days again.””

“The Jedi returned to the small room. “Do you think he was genuine?” Obi-Wan asked Qui-Gon. “He hardly looked the part of a grieving brother.”

“Yes,” Qui-Gon said. “But there is another perspective. You could say that he did not take the time to change but rushed here when he heard. His attire could be confirmation of his grief.”

“Is that what you think?” Obi-Wan asked.

“I don’t know. But I need to hold the two perspectives so my vision will be clear.””
