“Mickey, hurry up, or your sister will kill us,” Skye said getting out of the car.
“Yeah yeah, I’m coming,” I smiled.
“Not yet you’re not,” she smiled back grabbing the present from the back.
“You keep going and we’ll end up skipping dinner altogether,” I threw back at her.
“I’m going to be quiet, let’s go,” she took my hand and we walked into the building.
“Happy birthday Callie!” I called as we walked into the apartment.
“Hey Mickey, hi Skye, thank you,” Callie beamed. Her cheeks were flushed so I knew that she had been drinking. Skye handed the present over as Callie gave us a hug.
“It’s just a little something, open it later in the bedroom,” I winked.
“Ooh, sounds promising. Come on through, everyone else is already here,” she ushered us into the lounge room. As we walked in, I stopped short when I saw Arizona fussing over some girl. I took a deep breath and located my sister.
“Hey! About time you pair got here,” Erica called. She too looked flushed from drinking.
“Hey Big E,” I smiled giving her a hug.
“Mickey-O getting with the flo,” she sang. I shook my head at her laughing. I said hello to the other guests.
“Hey Mickey,” Arizona smiled approaching us.
“Ari,” I smiled. Inside I was breaking. She called me Mickey. She always calls me Michelle, and she’s the only one I let do that.
“This is my girlfriend Morgan, Morgan, this is my friend Mickey and her girlfriend, uh, sorry I don’t remember your name,” Ari said to Skye.
“Um, I’m Skye,” Skye blushed. I took her hand in mine and gave her a reassuring squeeze.
“Skye, of course,” Ari smiled, her eyes meeting mine. I missed those blue orbs so much.
Dinner consisted of pizza and alcohol. I volunteered to go pick the pizza’s up seeing as I only had one drink. Callie came along for the drive.
“So how are things with you and Skye?” she asked as we headed off.
“Yeah, ok I guess,” I shrugged.
“Just ok?” she enquired.
“We’re just enjoying the ride Cal, it’s nothing serious or anything,” I laughed.
“I thought maybe it was, you’re always with her,” Callie said.
“Yeah, she’s teaching me alot. Her girlfriend was abroad for six months, she gets back next week. They had some sort of open relationship while apart or something, and Skye has been helping me gain experience,” I shrugged.
“Oh, so it’s not serious, oh shit,” Callie mumbled.
“What?” I laughed.
“Oh dear, how did this end up such a mess?”
“Callie, what the hell are you talking about?” I asked.
“Arizona.”
“Yeah, that really clarifies things, you may need to elaborate a little there,” I laughed as we pulled up to the pizza shop.
“She got back with her ex because, uh she’s going to kill me for telling you,” she winced.
“Calliope,” I warned her.
“She got back with Morgan because she thought that you and Skye were serious,” she mumbled.
“What’s my relationship with Skye got to do with her and Morgan?” I was confused.
“You and her really need to talk Mickey, just talk to her,” Callie said in a tone that made me realise I wouldn’t get any more out of her just yet on the subject.
“Mickey, is there history between you and Arizona?” Skye asked me as we stood out on the balcony a few hours later.
“What makes you say that?” I asked as I put my arms around her.
“The way you two look at each other and avoid each other,” she smiled.
“Hmm, it’s complicated,” I answered as I watched Arizona dancing with Morgan through the glass doors.
“Sounds like it. But for what it’s worth, I think the pair of you need to be together. The chemistry is electrifying,” she pulled back a little and smiled sadly.
“What are you saying Skye?” I asked a little sadly although I was sure of what was about to happen.
“Kate gets back next week so you knew our time was nearly up. I just think you need to go after what your heart wants and don’t take no for an answer. It was fantastic knowing you Mickey, and I really hope we can be friends,” she smiled.
“We will be friends Skye. Thank you, you taught me so much and it was a great journey we had,” I kissed her nose then her lips.
“I hope you get what you want. Come by tomorrow and get your stuff,” she said before walking inside and saying good bye and leaving. I felt a tear slide down my cheek.
“Hey, how come Skye has gone home?” Erica asked as she joined me outside.
“We broke up,” I smiled at Erica.
“Uh, what?” she said in shock. I explained to her what I explained to Callie earlier.
“So yeah, now was the best time to call it quits,” I smiled through tears that were still flowing.
“Then why are you crying?” she asked while wiping my tears.
“Because now I can’t hide anymore,” I said sadly, looking at Arizona who was heading this way.
“Maybe you don’t need to hide anymore,” she kissed my forehead and went inside as Arizona stepped out.
“Hey, what are you hiding out here for?” she asked quietly.
“Just getting some fresh air,” I shrugged.
“Skye seems nice. She had to leave?”
“Yeah, she’s gone,” I whispered. We stood next to each other in silence for a few minutes.
“Michelle,” she whispered. I looked at her.
“What, now I’m Michelle?” I asked a little too harshly.
“Huh?” she looked at me in confusion.
“Nothing, never mind,” I muttered shaking my head and looking down.
“Right, well, uh, I better get back in there. Callie wants you to come dance,” she said, brushing against me as she headed inside. I just closed my eyes and took a deep breath. My hand shot out and grabbed her arm before I even realised what I was doing.
“Ari,” I whispered, my eyes still closed.
“I’m with Morgan, you’re with Skye, we can’t Michelle,” she whispered back, freeing her arm from my grasp and slowly walking back inside.
