Minnehaha: the phrase you're looking for is "family show". :)
I normally fan dance in precious little besides the fans (local laws usually require something) but this was an all-ages show where the goal was an acrobatic modern dance with fans, not a tease.
Also, do note that Ms. Rand actually frequently danced in a "thick coat of white theatrical paint" or a "nude bodystocking". Remember, in 1939 just seeing all the curves on a woman's body at once was pornographic.
