The car battery died on Thursday. After some fussing from mom, who happened to be in town with grandma (always a recipe for fightin' words),
captain_jester came to the rescue and took me to get it tested and charged.
Since that process was going to take about an hour, we went to Kroger to pick up his prescription, which would take another 20+ minutes. So we wandered the aisles, finally deciding to get some pumpkin egg nog. I was expecting it to be liquid pumpkin pie, but it was surprisingly (and disappointingly) weak, not even as tasty as regular nog. Still, it WAS tasty, and Matt and I finished off most of the half-gallon while sitting on a bench outside and harassing a Kroger employee. About 1/5 or so was left...
Me: That is exactly how much eggnog should be left when two people have had all the eggnog they can drink.
Matt: Is that a challenge?
Me: I'm just saying, more than that is guaranteed to make you sick.
Matt: Well, I HAVE to drink it now. ::pours some in his cup and drinks::
Me: Hwaaaaaaaaaarf!
After I got my battery, I went up to see K and eat some Chipotle, which was tasty.
Friday was Spellfilchers, which went generally very well. Will provided tasty burgers for all. My only complaint (which I don't think the party agrees with) is that most of my bad guys folded far too easily. The tough ones. It's just the way the dice fell. On the bright side, it actually sparked my idea for other ways the plot can go, ways which I think the players will appreciate more, and which I know I will have way more fun with. So huzzah!
Saturday was a pretty standard day at work. Nothing crazy, although I started reading The Boys, which I had heretofore only skimmed a few times. Doom. Watched Pleasantville with K, which was a surprisingly wonderful movie, containing layer after layer of societal commentary, far past the surface of OH NO, WE ARE SUCKED INTO A TV! It was pleasing. Also: pancakes. And joints.
Pidgy is doing poorly. She's getting what seems to be full-body arthritis, or it might just be the fact that she never let her wrenched leg heal up properly, which can throw off all kinds of other muscles, since it changes your posture. Blah. I just wish she'd feel better.
I'm really enjoying Blood Tide, a book I'm reading write now. It started off... well... awful. Seriously. I barely made it past the first ten pages. They were a mishmash of unfamiliar "made-up word" terms, references to characters and things the reader doesn't know, and crowded descriptions. It made for a horrible start. Then it started getting good. Really good. I've read books that get good after a much longer investment, but rarely one so startlingly different in quality. Once I finish it I'll let you know if the ten pages were worth it. So far, it's a yes.
Tomorrow I've got a phone interview with Kroger for an internal technical support position. This is scary, because... Well, it just is. It's a gateway to a real job, and It's been about two years since I've had one of those. Will I survive? We shall see. I'm considering holding off on Sunday night gaming tonight because the smoke over at
skylion's place always makes me feel like shit afterward and on Monday morning, and I should do my best not to stay up too late. But I *do* want to play a full game of Munchkin Quest. Hrm. We shall see.
Werk werk.
