God bless your valiant soul for venturing out in this ominous date. Thank you for being neighborly and for celebrating this Halloween with delicious bits of fandomly cheer!
I know that strangers knocking at your door and demanding trick or treat is kind of daunting. Here I'll give you some ideas that might help you out, if you found them a burden, disregard them and write to your heart content. As a rule, I'm most interested in the canonverse, so I’d appreciate a story about that rather than a crossover or AU; but, don't worry if you can't, please.
I have stated in my letter this list:
General Likes
* Fluff
Halloween is the perfect time for a tooth-rotting sweetness, isn’t it?
* Domesticity and slice-of-life, including curtainfic
There is nothing I love more than my favorites having a bit of time for themselves. I don’t care if you describe a nice shower to me or coming home after a long day, I would love it.
* Hurt/comfort
The only constant in the human condition is that we are vulnerable and we need of each other.
* One-sided love
We all know what’s to aspire of something we can’t reach. That feeling, but with a person, is catnip to me.
* Competence kink
I love all the characters doing their best and loving it!
* Characters passing
the broccoli test.
Listen, I love the understated/fully understood messages, but the “I see you and I know” is simply sublime.
* Care-taking as evidence of love
Acts speak louder than words and I swoon for my characters to get acted upon…
* Cuddling and bed-sharing
Do I need to explain this one?
DNWs
* AUs, most particularly, mundane AUs.
No coffee shop or high school for me, which is awesome way to write at any other time, but not for Halloween!
* Gore
I'm ok with violence but not with lovely descriptions of splattered blood or insides.
* Scat
'nuff said
* Harm to minors
If we can avoid it, that would be awesome.
* Blood play or Knife play
This squeek me to next week!
Now, I’m a big kid, if you want to get naughty and venture toward the ratings M or E, I’m here for that. If you want to play it safe, that’s OK too. I read from G to E and I promise to squee over your work, how can’t I? YOU are writing for me!
These are the fandoms I requested. Most of them are pretty childlike and family friendly, but you have my permission to scare my socks off so do your worse. Without further ado…
A Little Princess - Frances Hodgson Burnett
Ship: Tom Carrisford & Ram Dass (A Little Princess - FHB)
Ship: Tom Carrisford & Sara Crewe (A Little Princess - FHB)
Did I mention I'm a sucker for hurt/comfort? This pairings are primed for a good session, but I find these relationships are more vulnerable from the inside than from the outside. I hope you could explore the horrors and the little comforts of a man who lost the way his body was, a man who lost his country and a girl who has to rebuild herself.
On the treat side: How these character express their suffering and find comfort? How could they adapt to the new life and let go the pass? Which way they support each other?
On the trick side: What happens between these characters when negative emotions arise? How do they grieve their losses? Do they despair at their losses?
Anne of Green Gables - L. M. Montgomery
Character: Anne Shirley (Ann of Green Gables - LMM)
Character: Captain Jim (Anne of Green Gables - LMM)
Character: Gilbert Blythe (Ann of Green Gables - LMM)
Another comfort fandom I love dearly. For this fandom, I can see the dangers coming from outside: weather, rides in the middle of the nights, unexplained sounds, even monsters. These characters are made of the good stuff and they could face the world with pluck and vim!
On the treat side: How they would tell a tale of surviving a misadventure? Do they bumped in their daily life with something unexplained that left them puzzled? How they celebrate they were still around?
On the trick side: How would Gilbert face an assault from something that's not a man nor a beast? How could a young wife care for a house that refuses to settle down? What kind of strange things happen around the lighthouse tower in the wee hours of the morning?
Fandom: Jeeves - P. G. Wodehouse
Character: Reginald Jeeves (Jeeves - PGW)
Character: Bertram "Bertie" Wooster (Jeeves - PGW)
Ship: Reginald Jeeves/Bertram "Bertie" Wooster (Jeeves - PGW)
Ship: Reginald Jeeves & Bertram "Bertie" Wooster (Jeeves - PGW)
I got to admit, I have a soft spot for a particularly
unequal relationship. You can make it gen, you can make it slash, but if you could manage both characters, that would be awesome. Canon was funny, but don't be afraid to tip your toes beyond the lighthearted inconveniences and go a smidgen (or a whole) darker. I wonder...
On the treat side: What’s the feeling of a job well done? How can you reward loyalty? What's the perfect way to spend a day in each other company?
On the trick side: What's the proper way to deal with a supernatural being in the house? What to do when the master got rid of his aunt's gift and a curse unleashes? How can we survive when fashion changes in such an appalling way?
The Muppet Show
Character: Miss Piggy (Muppet Show)
Character: Kermit the Frog (Muppet Show)
Character: Waldorf (Muppet Show)
Character: Statler (Muppet Show)
Character: Rowlf the Dog (Muppet Show)
Character: Fozzie Bear (Muppet Show)
It's time to face the music... The quintessential show, full of funny bits and under the radar joke. Have fun with this one, author, because as long as you don't point at the muppeters, you can't go wrong with this one. Have the usual canon shenanigans and pick a character or the whole list, that will make my delights.
On the treat side: How do they end a show? What do they do when a guest star becomes a diva? How could they manage a show where nothing goes right?
On the trick side: What's like to have to keep the show going on with a monster in the set? What's like to have to interrupt the show because a local sad/dangerous event? How the Muppets would manage if the zombie apocalypse breaks out in the theater?
That's a lot of questions, but, really, dear author, I want to know!
In the meantime, thank you, lovely neighbor, for your hard work. I promise not to finish it all in one go (Do you believe it? I hope you did!)
Happy writing and happy Halloween!
