Predictive Subway...

He wasn’t a fan of the N Train. It wasn’t the people, or the stops or anything like that. It was the modern subway cars. Those newer ones that give you a clear view of the cars in front, unlike the older models that only offered faded ads and grime. The cars that let you see every turn, every bump before it happens. To him it felt too much like he could see the future, like he was cheating all the mystery out of life.

Then one of those kids came by, peddling chocolates. Once sufficiently ignored by all the riders, he packed up his belongings and started heading towards the front of car and into the future. He had to fight the urge to grab him, the want to shake the kid and call him a fool, telling him he was heading in the wrong direction. ‘Stay here with us,’ he’d plead with him. ‘Stay here and cheat the system, don’t let this gift go to waste!’
