The Stuff of Dreams

When I moved into the apartment at 35 Main St., I had some strange dreams.  It's a very confused place; anyone who's stayed there would agree that personality is an understatement for that space.  So, naturally, I was quite glad to leave.

Needless to say, the apartment I live in now seems to be quite neutral...no strange energies going on in here!  And that's FINE with me.  Really.  I don't think I've ever lived in such a spiritually neutral place.  It's been a welcome break.  No strange, vivid, terrifying dreams in this apartment.  Nope.  None.  Well, almost none.

See, up until last night, there weren't  any.  Nothing out of the ordinary.  Then last night, it was like everything let go.  Here's the general scenario:
I was in a safe place with a couple people...I don't think we knew each other except from the circumstances.  We had to be very quiet, or "they" would hear us.  I think "they" were some kind of zombies.  Not entirely 100% sure on that detail, but their faces were drained of color except around their mouths, which were a dark grey...kind of like a really bad 5'o'clock shadow.  Anyway, we had to escape, and I knew some place safe where there would be more people.  So we jumped into an abandoned truck that just happened to have the keys inside.  It looked surprisingly like Swamp Thing, but was much bigger.  Anyway, the three of us jumped in the truck and were driving away.  The whole town (we were definitely in Livermore Falls because we were driving down 133) had apparently been quarrantined off; there were barriers all up and down the road--they looked like skeletons but were really just cardboard and said "danger" in big red letters.  We just plowed through them in this truck.  Eventually we got out of town.  Everything seemed to be abandoned until we got to the safe place.  In reality, it was my grandmother's house back in Springvale (only we were driving for DAYS, not just a couple hours).
There were a few people I knew there.  And I had things there; those important things that have no monetary value but are irreplaceable to us.  Although I have no idea what those things are now.  Anyway, the deal was we could get things together here--it was like a halfway point or something--and then move on, alone, to our "new lives."  We could only take what was absolutely neccessary to move on, but I didn't want to leave my memories behind, so I somehow snuck them into my car (Krista, my actual car, even though we drove down there in that truck and she should be back where we came from...) with the help of one of my friends.  It turned out we were both going to the same area, although she was supposed to start over as some kind of engineer and I was supposed to start over as an artist.  It was almost like everyone passing through this place was going through a witness protection program like relocation; we had to leave who and what we were behind...shed our old skins.
But every turn I made, everywhere I went I kept looking over my shoulder for those creatures that I knew used to be people but were forever destroyed...beyond saving.  And everywhere I went I swear I saw them, but they weren't really there.  Or were they?  This new existance I had been thrown into seemed terrifyingly thin...something was wrong with it.  And I wasn't the only one who noticed...my friend in the same area (I think we were in Brooklyn) also began to notice the falseness of our state of being...

I never found out what happened after that; what the "truth" was, if you would; because I woke up.  It was about 2 am and I woke up in a cold sweat.  I searched the room...honestly, the first thing I thought was "shit!  I'm back here, they're going to get me!"  I seriously thought there were freakin' zombies after me.  Of course, I then realized that there were no zombies and it was all a dream.  Still freaked me out...and it took me a while to fall asleep again.

I can't really figured out why, though.  I mean, it made sense in other situations where I've had dreams this real...I've been around powerful people or in powerful areas...this place just doesn't give off that kind of energy to mess with my head like that.  It's a bit puzzling and quite disturbing.  Dreams that real are unsettling to me...as they are few and far between...and usually signify something happening in my life.  I can't imagine what this is supposed to signify...*shudder*
