Cdrama: Dashing Youth
Dashing Youth, ep.1-5: This drama has a good budget which is evident from the costumes, set building, and CGI. Unfortunately and this is the biggest snag is Hou Ming Hao in the lead role. He can't act, it's so painfully obvious especially against other actors who share the same scene with him.
While Li Hongyi in Blood of Youth had average acting skills, at least he was able to pull off the "sick and bored" look of his character. Baili Dongjun is supposed to be a lazy genius who loves alcohol with a kind of innate charisma and low-key seduction which the older actor who played him in Blood of Youth was able to portray. It's even worse when Hou Ming Hao is in the same scene with Xia Zhi Guang who plays the younger Sikong Chang Feng. They are like two idiots who can't act and the jokes fall completely flat.
So far they are just setting up the story and background of the characters, the pace feels too slow for me but I don't know if other viewers, who like to be handheld, will feel the same way.
That said, the supporting cast is huge even in these first episodes. It's a fun summer Cdrama and not to be taken seriously so I'll watch it for that. I just hope it doesn't drag with 40 eps.
