The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity (2020)

I'm glad they still showed this on Netflix despite it being pulled in China.
Overall, it's a great adaptation of the original Japanese novel "Onmyouji" by Yumemakura Baku. I watched the original two Onmyouji films but of course they are very dated now. This new adaptation has beautiful CG (no expense spared!) gorgeous costumes that make you want to linger and stare for hours to figure out the details, and a really strong cast of actors.
In fact, if it weren't for the cast the movie would have failed terribly as it's heavy on style while the "substance" of the plot is mostly in the latter half. The trailers emphasized the friendship/bromance between Deng Lun and Mark Chao aka Boya and Qing Ming (Abe no Seimei), and while that was fun to watch and they had chemistry, the real star of the movie is the princess. Wang Ziwen's acting is top-notch here, powerful yet restrained. I actually cried a bit at the ending^^ The world isn't kind to women in any era it seems.
So yes, recommended viewing!
