Hola.

It is 97 degrees outside in this fair, landlocked city of Madrid. I´m sitting in an internet cafe after spending most of the afternoon lounging, sweating, and trying to move as little as possible. I´m waiting for Angela and Camila to call me, as we are gonna go see Madagascar (in english with spanish subtitles.. YES!) and take a break from the heat.

Last night Carlinhos Brown, hot brazilian extraordinaire, led Carnaval in the streets. thousands upon thousands upon thousands turned out to dance, drink sangria out of buckets, whiskey out of dixie cups, coke and rum out of cut off plastic litre bottles, smoke hash in every way imaginable, and sweat on each other. for blocks and blocks people crowded together, pouring water on each other, singing along to the two GIGANTIC floats that carried the musicians down the streets.

A couple things about Madrid: This city knows how to throw a good party, and does it every chance it gets. A couple weeks ago Shakira and fireworks ended a day long olympics related fiesta. Friday, to celebrate some anniversary of Don Quijote, they had this huge hip-hop rendition of it outside the biblioteca nacional (it was called, to my delight, Hip-Jote). Next week is Dia de San Juan, which will serve as another excuse to get wasted, dance in the streets, and sing and yell until morning.

I got well acquainted with some jaeger bombs and bots last night, and that kin of did me in early (early being getting home at 3 instead of 4). I really need to work on my stamina. Even though I sleep all day and just go out at night, I get TIRED really fast. I guess that´s what happens when you do it every night. Whoosh.

oh god, it´s time for a nap. xoxo
