It all started on Tuesday...
I was talking to my friend Grace about anime and Japanese horror films and all the fun stuff like that, and we were going over our favorites and arguing about whether or not FLCL is really worth the headache. Then we decided that arguing was going to get us nowhere so we just talked about our common favorites and, based on the ones we knew the other liked, suggesting some good ones in that related genre.
This is what I've ended up borrowing and watching:
- Gunslinger Girl
- Hellsing (including what's released of the redux's)
- Trigun (cuz it's been a long time)
- Full Metal Alchemist (and both movies)
- Afro Samurai (which was surprisingly good. Sam Jackson fucking rules!)
- One Missed Call (the original Japanese release)
- Audition (oh dear God...)
Then, we start talking about Hellsing and Trigun (cuz let's face it, Vash and Alucard are just badasses). And we noticed something that I hadn't, for some reason, picked up on. More than the first half of those two are almost solely for character development. Yeah, there are baddies to kill or take care of, but you never actually meet the true arch nemesis until damn near the end of the series. In Hellsing, you don't really get to meet Incognito until the last, I wanna say 4-5 episodes out of a 13 episode run. In Trigun, yeah when you're learning about Vash's past, you run into Knives, but he isn't truly established as the main bad guy until the last few episodes. Not to mention the secondary bad guy in Trigun, Legato who still doesn't show up until the series is more than halfway over.
But has anyone else ever wondered who set the 60,000,000,000$$ bounty on Vash? It never really says... unless I missed it (which is entirely possible). I mean I always thought it was Knives, cuz that would be really logical, or even someone working for Knives. I dunno...
I think I need rehab...
