Haha, well I am not friends with any of the Linguistics people that aren't sciency, unfortunately. I find that Linguistics is really similar (in grammar reconstructions and that sort of thing) to logic. There are some 'arts' stuff, in Aboriginal Languages and another 2nd year unit (I forget) has some really important essays you have to do.

First year is really easy, but first year always is always easy.

It depends what teacher you get. Most post weekly, or fortnightly tests. Those are usually really easy, sometimes difficult but you can always get help. And most of them have a large essay or other kind of big assessment.

But the fortnightly tests are really... logic tests usually, they are recreating languages or grammar, or that sort of thing.
First year is easy but there are parts of it, like understanding grammar and stuff, which are the sort of stuff you do later on.

I know people who don't have a scientific mind doing Linguistics and they can do well, but I always feel like they do a bit more work then me. Especially in the grammar sort of things. And I'm sure you can learn to have a sciency mind.

Thanks! It sounds really cool. Looks like i might be postponing it for a while but your insight is really helpful, i never like to trust the overviews on the uni website. Fortunately for me, i find grammar stuff really interesting so maybe that would help me get through it.
Thankyou once again!

actually I do have one more question - what on earth IS Forensic Linguistics?

Forensics: anything to do with the law/justic system

So basically it's any where Linguistics is important in aresting to the courts. So Linguists testifying in copyright, writing analysis, understanding language (in cases of understanding their rights etc. or what they are saying) and that sort of stuff.

Basically lots of things. But usually reffers to Linguists testifying, rather then translating and that sort of stuff.
