what else to do while uninstalling programs?

So it has been forever, I have been non-existent in LJ world. But I still read the journals of my few friends who do post :) I am uninstalling programs and deleting stuff on my laptop, hoping it will run faster. It is soooo slow. But I guess that happens when I have a really nice, new computer at home.

So it has been so long that I am not sure what is new. I am trying to wrap everything up to graduate with my MS. Have a paper or two to publish, thesis to write, need to train someone to take over, or at least learn AFM and Raman. My defense is April 26th.

So I guess the big thing is that I will be starting work June 12 at JHU Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, MD, my first choice!! I was so excited to be able to work at my first choice in just about every category. They are close to where we live now and also close to where Mike works (he has a class there now) so that will making finding a convenient house location easier! We have been looking at houses, and everything is so expensive :( We need to meet with lenders and get pre-approved, but Mike has been so busy with work. Several times he has stayed to 10, 11pm or later, working almost 15 hr days, eek! But he seems to like it and be very good at what he does, so yay!

Oh so more about my work. It will be in the Technical Services Department in the Materials Group, working for a classmate's dad :) I am really looking forward to it, a huge variety, lots of good equipment, cool problems, and not to mention much better pay than a grad stipend! And more than $10K more than Mike makes ;) But that should change since he should be getting a raise this summer :)

Morgan is still the best dog ever! I see her more than Mike and she keeps me sane, a great stress reliever and all around great pal.

Other news I guess is that Mike and I have been looking at engagement rings together for several months now. I guess it is taking a while since I am not a traditional "give me a big shiny rock" gal. I don't believe in spending a lot, and frankly, anything much bigger than .5ct looks ridiculous on me. We also looked at emerald rings, and determined that I like the cheapest stuff. So much for "2 months salary." Try 10% of 2-weeks take home pay. Lol. I would rather have it that way. But I think Mike is torn, I mean, it is the manly thing to provide for your woman and show off what you bought her. I just think it is cute because he has talked to his mom about things now, and his grandmother knows and brought it up twice last weekend. I guess it is pretty cool :) I do really love Mike's family. It was a great time last weekend with them! Just not so exciting because I will never be proposed to out of the blue, there will be no surprises. I know we are going to get married. But then again, this is the way it really should be. Marriage shouldn't be a spur of the moment surprise.

Well I am done uninstalling. Time to head home, brave the traffic. Poor dog will be home by herself for 11 hours :( I hate to do that to her.
