Death of Piggy
Our beloved pet hedgehog, Piggy, who is also the photo of my little icon thingy, has passed away. She had a very good life, the last year of it with Shanna and I. Having inherited her from a friend who, upon his marriage to a woman who rehabilitated sick cats for the humane society, felt he could no longer keep her as the risk of her picking up an infection was too great. Piggy was right as rain up until the very end, experiencing minor paralysis in her rear legs for a few days, growing to loss of appetite. She then ceased drinking water, and slept even more than usual. At this point, we knew the end was coming, but held out hope. When she began to exhibit problems drawing a breath, I took her to the Vet to be humanely euthanized. Luckily, this whole downward spiral was less that a week; she didn't have to live long being forced to experience a poor quality of life. I still recommend a pet hedgehog to anyone who is interested, and we hope to have another pet piggy in the future.
