So, the project I'm working on this month involves looking at using brain electrode inputs to control neural prosthetics for high level spinal cord injury patients... We're looking at a rat model with an electrode array implanted its motor cortex and trying to train it to control a device with mental commands to measure the effects of neural plasticity. So here it is..... the first photograph of "Mickey, the rat with a USB port in his brain"!
(Actually, I'm the only one to call him Mickey- the other people on the project refer to him as "the rat" --- but that really is a computer interface on his skull :)). I'm wondering if I'll be able to get them to let me take him home as a pet once we're done.... :)
Other than that, not much new here. Went to an 80s party the other night. I'd forgotten how bad the video games were back then...
