I think that the existence of "Zombie Strippers" is proof enough the genre has gone to hell.

Oh, I haven't heard of that one. I looked it up on imdb and it sounds like it would be right up there with "Special Dead" (about handicapped 'retarded' zombies, which just happens to feature a five minutes sex scene of a girl sucking her bloody thumb while being pounded from behind until the zombie blood she's sucking up infects her) and "Creatures from the Pink Lagoon" (about gay zombies who dance when they hear radio jingles and the only zombie movie I know to show a dildo - and then an even bigger one - just for laughs). I have no problem with funny zombie movies. Although how a movie about zombie strippers (I'm assuming they're topless a lot) could get an R rating, I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out how *any* show with sex scene that lasts more than 1 minute could get an R rating instead of an X ( ... )

Eh I just get the feeling that people cross the street or watch their back to avoid being robbed/stabbed/shot/killed.. not so much paranoia from watching too many horror movies. I don't watch horror movies but I am definitely wary of walking by myself when I get out of work at 11pm.

That said... yeah, I prefer my scary to be psychological.. but I don't really like scary movies because, if I am afraid, generally they are the realistic what ifs.... and not rednecks, or whatever.

This was interesting to read though. heh

I honestly think the biggest common fear among people today is either getting old or dying of an expensive medical condition that will make their last few years of life torture. Pain and death are the big fears. Rape might be for women, but women definitely aren't the audience for most rape horror fics ( ... )

Wow. Really great rant on horror movies. :)

This is an article that appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education you might enjoy on why, as a society, we need monsters in the first place:

I'm not a fan of ghosts in general because I used to be subscriber to a magazine called FATE. After a while the magazine became full of "reports from the readers" where everyone told all about their ghostly encounters. All that fake BS ruined the entire idea of ghosts for me. But I'm still usually up for a good haunting movie. I've watched tons of slasher type horror movies and I've never seen anything that has the 'spine tingling' scenes like the ghost movies. So I keep coming back to them, even though I hate hearing about them in real life.

Well, Stephen King already remade (and ruined) the Shining, so that's out. And I hear the guy who redid Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th is redoing "The Birds" so that'll be ruined shortly. Imagine The Birds full of trashy rednecks, pot smoking teens, and explicit sex scenes every few minutes. It makes my stomach hurt. -.-

and Hitchcock always did the sexual stress/strain in the movies. i guess i keep watching the original as always.

and Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th remakes like Texas Chainsaw remake was bad, so bad not even worth remembering their existance.

Hitchcock knew how to apper to human's small insticts with sub-texts. he did voyeurism so well that we never really catch it (well in Rear Window, it was oblious). and of course sexual innuendo was so well made, we never have to see them do it. we knew they did. no wonder i still go and see them after watching 10 and plus times.
