My Word for 2019

Jan 03, 2019 23:06

So over here, I submitted the following blurb about my words for 2019. I've done this the last few years, but I don't know if I really did anything with my words in any given year. This year, I'm working on making some changes in my life, and my word is a reflection of that. Below is what I wrote about my word on that site.
My word for 2019 is Kintsukoroi. Apparently is now more currently referred to as Kintsugi, but I've known the former term far longer, and it's what sticks out for me the most, so it's what I'm using.

The literal translation of kintsukoroi is "to repair with gold"; it is the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer. The whole concept of kitsukoroi is to embrace and celebrate what has been broken and repaired. I take this to mean that all scars are beautiful and a living reminder of what we have survived.

And so, by choosing this word, my goal in 2019 is to embrace my scars even more than I already do, and to embrace the scars of those around me, especially those who cannot see the beauty of their scars just yet. I want the opportunity to teach them how to cherish and celebrate their scars and their worth.
