Bits and Bobs

...in bullet format, because I can...
  • Happy belated birthday to
    shesgottaread,
    jazwriter, and
fleta. RL has been all sorts of wonky lately, thanks to some weird allergy/infection I've been dealing with for the last week. My apologies, and I hope your days were absolutely fantastic.

  • I am having some serious struggles this last week with writing. I still have 3 or 4 of the original fics to write from the Free MicroFic Day, plus some poetry that I still owe
morrigans_eve. I haven't forgotten about any of this stuff, I just haven't been in the proper writing headspace... I am hoping to change that.

  • I've been fighting this weird... ailment, for lack of a better word. It started last weekend. I was stuffed up, eyes watering, nose dripping, but no real coughing to speak of. And then my throat started getting sore and my eustachian tubes/ear canals did, too. I've been taking the Allertec [Zyrtec knockoff from Costco] the whole time, and that helps a little bit to relieve some of the symptoms, but not enough. Lorre thinks the sore throat/eustachian tubes thing is either the result of a bad case of post nasal drip or a possible infection. She's also thinking the constant eyes watering/tearing up [which seems to have stopped finally *knocks on wood*] could have been an infected tear duct.

I don't honestly care what the hell this shit is, it just needs to go away. The near constant rain and damp this past week has NOT helped at all either. Nor has the mouth breathing, thanks to the stuffed up nose. No one else in the house has any of my symptoms, so we're certain it's not something contagious. It's just annoying as fuck when trying to swallow, for the most part. *sighs*

  • Have been doing a lot of crocheting this past week for my cousin's little girl that's due the 20th of next month. I need to finish up what I've got yet, then get it all boxed up, as I'm planning to ship it out to her on Monday or Tuesday of next week. She's already said that she'll be showcasing my work at her baby shower on the 31st. *squees* There's so much I'd wanted to make for her, but I'm trying to be realistic. Plus, the largest size I've made for anything is maybe 6 mos, so I've decided that I'll just randomly make things here and there and send them along to her as the baby gets bigger.

  • Have also been working on some other crafty stuff. Hell, I'll take the creative juju wherever I can get it, you know? Got a couple of ATCs completed, and I'm working on a few more things along those lines. Also have another minizine to fill in and prep for sending out. Am loving the creative workout that I get from Swap-bot.com, that's for damned sure. And I've enjoyed the things I've received from swap partners, too.

  • While crocheting, I've been watching a bunch of my DVDs, as there's no cable down here at the nephew's house. I've already done my trip ritual of watching Mists of Avalon, Merlin, and Strange Brew. Last night, after Strange Brew ended, I asked the nephew to pick out another DVD for me to watch, as I knew he was having fun playing Blaster Ball 2 on the computer [and he really doesn't get much computer time at all]. He made me look away while he chose, so he could surprise me. The little shit put in the Funhouse Tour Live in Australia DVD. He knows me so well! LOL! He absolutely fell in love with that concert when I first showed it to him a couple months ago, so it's now becoming something of a ritual for us to play/watch it.

I also finally watched Waiting for the Moon yesterday.
shatterpath bought it for me a while back as a birthday and/or Yule gift, because it's about Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. I've had it in my trip DVD book for several months now, and just kept forgetting to watch it. So I finally put it in yesterday, since I knew had extra time in the afternoon to watch it while the nephew was at his field trip. What a fascinating movie! And watching it reminded me of how much I've loved Gertrude Stein's poetry for most of my adult life. So now, I'm on a quest to find more of her poetry and their biographies and such.
I'm sure there's something else I'd planned to talk about here, but am blanking on it atm.
