Today I am grateful for drivers that actually respect crosswalks and the pedestrians in them.
There is a crossing guard near the school for before/after school for the kids. And the main road there also has a crossing signal. But mostly this town deals with just a crosswalk and drivers hopefully being human enough to stop and let the pedestrians cross the street. There are a LOT of drivers that either don't pay attention or just don't give a fuck about pedestrians. As someone who's nearly been hit twice BY THE SAME PERSON while trying to legally cross in the crosswalk [not here, this was years ago in Portland, but still], I KNOW that there are people who are either clueless or heartless. I suppose it's a matter of semantics, eh?
Anyway, luckily when I have been doing the crosswalks with Will, we've been very lucky [usually with the crossing guard]. On my own, I tend to have to wait for drivers to get a clue, particularly at the non-lighted crosswalks. But the jaywalking fine in this town is like $100+, so I'd rather wait than get a ticket.
And you know what else I'm grateful for today? I'm grateful that I was able to get this entire 53 days of the Gratitude Project done each day. Yes, there were days that I had to backdate due to lack of internet issues, but I was writing them down in a notebook each day to have them ready when I had internet. So yay!
I've kind of liked this project. I'm debating if I'm going to continue it or not. And if I do continue it, I'm still debating if it'll be in my daily pages or here on DW/LJ. We shall see...
