So I belong to
pagan_prompt and have answered a couple questions in the past, but
this one really spoke to me.
Modern Paganism tends to incorporate the idea of 'Patron' or 'Matron' deities - deities which someone feels close to and with whom they feel they have a special connection.
Do you have any deities that you feel especially close to?
If you have any patron or matron deities: How did they become your patron or matron? What type of relationship do you have with your patron or matron? Do you regularly honor your patron or matron? If so how? Finally, how do you view your patron or matron in the context of your own personal theological framework and view of the cosmos?
There are four deities that I've considered p/matron deities for many, many years, tho' two are more primary than the others.
My main patron deity is Poseidon, or as I call Him "Old Man". He's been a definite constant in my life for the past 10 1/2 years now. He became part of my personal pantheon the very first day I saw the Pacific Ocean in Lincoln City, OR. And His energy is the strongest on that particular beach, tho' I can feel His presence pretty much anywhere there's salt water. Waves get higher and come up onto the beach hgher for me, and He likes to try to completely soak me, particularly when I haven't visited recently. I honor Him every single time I go to the ocean or along the Puget Sound [where I live], especially if I get a good booty of sea glass and shell pieces in my beach combing. I've taken many trickets and offerings to be thrown into the ocean for "deep" cleansing.
As for my matron deities, there are three. Morgan le Fey, Hecate, and Ariestess. Morgan and Hecate haven't been as prominent in several years now, but I still include both in my personal primary four. I'm hoping to do some more work with both in the next year.
Ariestess, OTOH, is probably the one I would consider my primary deity period. There's very little information about Her available. In fact, there's nothing that I've found outside of what She's told me over the past 20 years. And right now, that's not something that can necessarily be shared publicly yet. What I can share is that She is a lesser daughter of Poseidon's...and that She saved my life almost 20 years ago. I was allowed to use Her name initially for my magical name, and later for various avatars, both online and otherwise, and I am still honored I was allowed to do so. I think I feel Her most potently in areas where fresh and salt water mingle, when She is reunited with her father. They are a potent force in my life, one I never wish to lose.
