The Basement Frontier
We have a new space in our home.
I'm so excited about our basement, that I'm blogging right now instead of eating. My stomach is growling and cramping I'm so damn hungry... but this couldn't wait!
Finally, after months of strange men (some pretty cool to talk to, actually) wandering in and out of the house, pounding and blowing and humming and breaking noises -we've got a new room downstairs. The floors are 18 inch tiles, the walls are super cheap (but nicely decorated) paneling with a sort of cracked antique finish. We put our entire sectional down there, along with two recliners and a computer desk. It is a little cramped near the computer desk, but overall we have seating for like 10 - 12 people and a quiet space that the kids are only allowed in when they get special permission.
It's a comfortable room, and it looks all new. The rug we got at JC Penney for $60 is gorgeous. It's plush and pretty and 9 x 5 feet -it would easily have cost us several hundred if we hadn't found it in the return room at the back of the store in Machesney Park. Mike and I moved the last peice of the sectional down there today and vacuumed up the mess that was left from him fixing up the wiring for our WiFi and replacing the drop-ceiling panels that were nasty looking. He's worked hard on this room, and there's still more work to be done but it's already my favorite place... besides maybe my office. My office is going to improve now, too, because the piles of crap that are currently on the floor behind me are all stuff that couldn't be in the basement while it was getting repaired.
YAY! The only suck thing about all of this is that tonight is our Shadowrun game and I'm going to miss YET ANOTHER session because I have to DJ tonight. Money is awesome, but I want to roll some dice in my AWESOME basement! WAAAAAAH.
