And I quote:
"This chaos had no form of its own, but took horrid shapes created by the deepest fears of the traveler who had the misfortune to wander into it. Monsters, flesh-eating rains, rivers of blood, pits full of snakes, spiders the size of a house ... terror in a thousand guises awaited anyone who walked into the Breach."
Obviously, the author has what I call a "leg-fear" or "fear of excess extremities", aka fear of insects, spiders and anything that crawls. Lobsters too, probably.
Anytime she describes the unnamed dark horrors of the Breach, which is a place of ultimate chaos, she describes objects of matter, palpable fears.
Myself, the chaos "not having a form of it's own" IS the ultimate terror. I don't need spiders or rivers of blood, rotting flesh and dead bodies [though they repulse me and I fear the zombies]. The smoky tendrils of
Mashadar or the wailing and whispering blackness of the Ways leaves me far more disturbed than any tangible creation of chaos could.
The fear itself doesn't need a physical manifestation. It just needs to BE.
Anyway, I find the books [Bridge of D'Arnath serie] pretty good.
I just felt like sharing this bit of info.;]
