I was recommended the works of Carol Berg last week.
I've just spent three very pleasurable days reading her Rai-kirah trilogy.
The plot seems rather simple in the beginning of the first book, but gets more and more entangled throughout the whole trilogy and the climax left me breathless.
Anyone who likes WOT should definitely read this trilogy. It comprises everything I like about WOT - the sorcery, ancient history, darkness of the soul, godlike powers of a distinct part of society, geography, secrecy, spies... Some aspects of the plot and characters are very very similar to WOT, the main character - Seyonne - feels like Rand reborn. With a little less of madness, perhaps. ;]
I'd take this trilogy and rewrite it to at least 15 books. Then it would almost be the perfect series. WOT with only the male channeling present.;] And unlike WOT, Berg's series are written in the main character's POV, which has become a must for a good book for me, recently.
I'm starting Berg's second series, Bridge of D'Arnath. It seems to be just as good so far.
I almost wish I would be able to just close the ebooks and get some work done.
