So starting about Monday, some friends and I are going to walk to Rivendell. You know, we'll start at Bag End and held out, following in the footsteps of those brave hobbits who've come before us. Don't worry, we'll pack plenty of lembas wafers and clean undies... we'll be back soon, don't worry!
... What, why are you looking at me like that? :P In reality each of us will be keeping track of our mileage with pedometers and stuff and every few week we're going to chart our progress in a spreadsheet and mark where we've gotten along a map of Middle Earth. This fabulous website
home.insightbb.com/~eowynchallenge/ came up with the idea and has neat little charts of milestones along the way. I think this is just the best idea since sliced bread as it will allow me to say things like "Where are you Jen?!" "I'm in the birch grove" "What?! I'm still looking back at Hobbiton. Let me get my bike and catch up!" We'll be able to support each other and encourage each other to exercise... without actually having to all be in the same place at the same time. Woots!
Provided I don't break a leg or something, I think I'll post my progress here :) Maybe send you all "My Visit To Middle Earth" updates.
