This and That

The NFL regular season starts tonight. Most of you probably don't care a hoot about that...but I'm going to be half watching the game tonight anyway. ;-) The Lions had a rather pathetic preseason, but we can always hope ( right, Bethany?). EDIT: The Lions aren't on tonight, btw...its the Patriots and Raiders. But thats okay because I like the Patriots next to the Lions. Don't ask me why, thats just the way it is.

Oooh, guess what I found in my library browsings yesterday? Scott, Scott, and more Scott! When I'd looked him up in the catolog I mostly only came across biographical type books; there was one entry that said "Waverley novels", but when I clicked on it for detailed info, it had a different main author and seemed like a reference book or bio as well. When I saw a line of 25 books bearing the name of Scott, therefore, I was completely stoked. I might have even done one of my dances of joy (don't worry, if I did--see? I was so excited I can't even remember such important details of my deportment--nobody saw me). I will be reading Old Mortality, The Abott (thanks to a recommendation from David), and Ivanhoe in the near future.

I also found Our Mutual Friend, as plain as day in two volumes, sitting on a shelf. When I was looking for it high and low two years ago, I couldn't find a single copy in the entire cities of Houghton and Calumet. I'm not sure if the latter would be considered a city anymore, but thats beside the point. I had to go to Traverse City to buy a copy! For those not familiar with MI geography, thats like an eight hour drive. But in a way its nice because I can always remember how I bought it minutes before seeing Joshua Bell live for the first time when I look at it. ;-)

I'm loving this time for reading and spending time in the library business. I'm 1/4 way through The Great Divorce, and it is ever so much better than The Spanish Bride.
