Accident

I just totaled my truck.

So, I figure it's an appropriate time to update my journal.

I was leaving the Calculus study group at Lauren's house. Driving down Birch, I get to the stop sign at Bear Valley Parkway. I look left, there's no one coming. I look right, there's a single truck about 300 feet away (more than enough time to cross). I look left again (just like they taught in driving school, hah). I pull into the intersection.

Then I'm on my side. My elbow hurts. I stare up through my windsheild (which isn't normally "up") at 5 people with scared looks on their faces, who are trying to open my passenger side door to help me out of my car. "Santa Baby" is playing on my cd player, I'm shaking as I try to stand. I'm bent over, trying to find the handle to the door above me. I find it, and one of the guys (who I find later was the driver of the truck that hit me, Justin) holds the door up, while another (still no clue who he was) tells me to swing my legs around so he can help me out. This is a struggle, because I'm wearing a skirt and worried about flashing them, but eventually I step on my headrest and sit on the side of my car, swing my legs around, and end up in the guys arms.

I only have my left flip flop on and I'm freezing. The girl who was in the truck starts calling 911 and a tow truck. I call my dad and tell him where I am. I wander the side of the street, my bare right foot cringes below the rocky pavement, and I shiver.

I kept saying things like "How I could I do this?" "It's all my fault" and "Oh my God", which I realize now probably won't help my case when it comes to determining fault. Seriously though, that guy must have been hauling ass!

Justin, the driver, said that my car went flying in the air, flipped, and eventually smashed onto the ground. Everyone was surprised that my windows all stayed intact.

A lady and her son who live nearby came to see if everything was alright. She offered me her phone, and I remembered that I should call Mandi and let them know I wouldn't be coming to Bible Study anytime soon. As I'm standing on the side of the road, Brooke Paulus, Abby Wallace, David Barno, and Matt Jessup pull up. I think Abby was driving, because I didn't see her until later, but everyone else jumped out of the car. Brooke threw her arms around me, and kept kissing me. I guess Chris called her after I called the house. Anyhow, it was very comforting to have her love :)

Two Mexican guys came and helped put my truck in the upright position. My dad showed up, traded insurance info and such with the other people. Then, the tow truck. My keys had been locked inside the car, but with my dad there, they put it in neutral and rolled it out of the road. I cleared everything out of the car.

Brooke showed up again to bring me a blanket since I had been shivering when she came the first time. She also took all the bible study lessons to bring to Bri's house since I wasn't going to be able to make it. Have I mentioned how much I love Brooke?

Two highway patrol cops came and took statements from Justin and I. After that, everyone went their separate ways. My dad is convinced that the other car must have been speeding (which is likely) so he wasn't mad at me at all. We do have a lot of details to work out though, now that we only have one car. Darren is driving my brother and I to school now, and I'm not sure what we're going to do once Lynn goes back to work. Luckily, she's out of work right now because she had knee surgery so we don't have to worry about that for a while...

At this point, I only have a minor injury. When I landed on my side, my left elbow slammed into the window, so now my entire left arm is kinda numb and my left shoulder is in pain. Hopefully everything will heal quickly because I can't miss too much water polo! I really want to be able to play in the game on Thursday, too. I hope it's possible. Vista = good team. We need to beat them! GAH, worst possible timing.

I guess that's enough about that. I apologize, livejournal, for staying away so long and only returning with bad news. I'll try to show you more love :)
