Steampunk scenario

Cressida just slapped Gabriel and walked out on him, which was so totally not in my plans for this or any other chapter, and I have absolutely no idea how to get things back on track at this point, so I'm going to take a break from writing and see if I can share a little with you all about my new project.

Once again (this seems to be a habit of mine) I've jumped into trying to write something without really knowing what I'm doing. I wrote Partnership in Blood without having ever read a vampire novel. Now I'm writing steampunk without really being experienced in it. That probably means I'll ignore some of the conventions of the genre, but maybe that isn't a bad thing.

I should also add that I started this story because my muse has been pouty since July and wanted something really angsty to sink its teeth into. Specifically, my muse wanted betrayal, infidelity, possibly even the fathering of a child outside the relationship, but it wanted a happy ending. Yeah, come up with something easy for me, why don't you?

So a combination of things aligned two weeks ago and I woke up with the idea for the currently unnamed novel. Gabriel is an inventor, a creative, intelligent man with great ideas and no money to finance them. Lucio is a companion, for all intents and purposes a high-class, high-priced courtesan. And in a world that puts everyone in his place and refuses to allow any deviation, these two men meet and fall in love.

Yeah, this is going to be fun to write. *g*

P.S. I really would love a steampunk icon. Anyone want to make me one? I'll pay you in short fic.
